Hyderabad: Defence start-ups will get a direct opportunity to work on real military requirements under a new partnership between T-Hub and the Indian Army’s Central Command. Under the partnership, T-Hub will receive active problem statements from the Central Command and identify start-ups that can develop solutions for them. Founders will be able to work with Army stakeholders to develop, test and validate technologies against actual deployment requirements.

A joint oversight committee will supervise the programme and coordinate engagements between the startups and the Army. T-Hub will also support product development, validation and market readiness, while incorporating operational feedback from Army stakeholders.

T-Hub CEO Kavikrut said direct engagement with end-users was important for start-ups developing defence technologies. “What founders need is direct engagement with end users to ensure their technologies meet real deployment conditions. This collaboration creates that pathway,” he said.

The partnership builds on T-Hub’s existing work with the Army’s Western Command. According to T-Hub, this makes it one of the select few organisations in the country with standing, direct relationships at the Command level.

T-Hub said it was also one of 28 organisations selected to implement the ministry of defence-led iDEX scheme and is the country’s largest iDEX incubator. It has engaged more than 100 defence start-ups and hosted over 70 iDEX challenges, according to the organisation. Start-ups supported through iDEX by T-Hub have secured more than ₹250 crore in commercial defence orders, besides ₹4.2 crore-plus in grants and ₹9 crore worth of proof-of-concept projects, T-Hub said.

For the start-ups, the new arrangement creates a clearer route from identifying a military problem to developing and validating a solution for possible field deployment, Kavikrut said.
