Nalgonda: Suryapet district collector Tejas Nandlal Pawar on Monday directed officials to distribute six saplings to each household to promote plantation during the monsoon season.

At a review meeting held at the Integrated District Offices Complex (IDOC) in Suryapet, he instructed officials to supply useful varieties of saplings to encourage planting and protection. He said improving greenery in rural and urban areas would contribute to environmental protection and called for coordinated efforts to achieve plantation targets.

The collector directed officials of panchayat raj, municipal, forest, agriculture and irrigation departments to work together on mass plantation and protection of saplings. He also asked officials to identify government lands for plantation and to take up a special drive to plant fruit-bearing saplings in schools and hostels. The education department was instructed to create environmental awareness among students.

He said private establishments, including petrol bunks, rice mills and industries, should participate in the ‘Vanamahotsavam’ initiative, and directed industries to undertake plantation drives within their premises.

Warning against negligence, he said lapses in plantation efforts would not be tolerated.

Additional district collector B. Hari Singh, district revenue officer Prem Raj, Zilla Parishad chief executive officer Shirisha and district forest officer Damodar Reddy were present.
