Surveillance Intensified Against Illegal Cattle Transport

 Nalgonda: Police and staff of the animal husbandry and veterinary department have been deployed at six check posts in Nalgonda district to maintain round-the-clock surveillance against illegal transportation of cattle.

District veterinary and animal husbandry officer Dr G.V. Ramesh inspected the inter-district check posts at Alagadapa and Wadapally.

Speaking on the occasion, he said surveillance had been intensified on all routes and at check posts across the district to curb illegal transportation of livestock during the Bakrid festival.

He said every vehicle passing through the check posts would be thoroughly inspected to verify whether cattle were being transported in violation of rules. He further directed officials to permit only those vehicles possessing valid veterinary certification documents.

Dr Ramesh said all regulations under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, the Prevention of Cow Slaughter Act, 1977, and the Transport of Animals Rules, 1978, must be strictly enforced during transportation of cattle.

He also instructed officials to ensure uninterrupted supply of clean drinking water for livestock at cattle markets.

Assistant director of the department Dr Venkata Reddy, veterinary officers Dr Ramadevi, Dr Swapna and Dr Shashikala were also present.
