State Pushes Joint Response Plan For Chemical Accidents

Hyderabad:  Telangana has called for stronger coordination among Major Accident Hazard (MAH) factories, district administrations and emergency agencies to ensure timely response to chemical accidents.

The issue was discussed at a workshop organised by the National Safety Council, Telangana Chapter, and the department of factories at FTCCI on Monday. Around 96 representatives of MAH factories and officials attended the programme.

Director of factories Y. Mohan Babu said preparedness was particularly important as state-level mock drills were being conducted in coordination with the National Disaster Management Authority.

He also stressed compliance with the Manufacture, Storage and Import of Hazardous Chemicals Rules, the Chemical Accidents Rules and the Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code, 2020.

The workshop focused on strengthening emergency mechanisms in factories and coordinating response measures to protect workers and people living in surrounding areas.
