NRR Accuses Cong. Of Betraying BCs, Undermining Reservations
Even in the GHMC elections, Rao said, claiming that in several BC-reserved seats, Majlis-backed and Muslim candidates have been elected as corporators under the BC umbrella, a trend he said was not seen earlier.
HYDERABAD: Telangana state BJP president N. Ramchander Rao on Monday launched a sharp attack on the Congress, accusing it of systematically betraying the backward classes (BC) community through appeasement politics, dilution of reservations and neglect of BC welfare institutions.
Addressing the first state executive meeting of the OBC Morcha at the party office, Rao said the Congress has historically done “grave injustice” to the BCs. He cited the introduction of five per cent reservation for Muslims during Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy’s tenure and their inclusion within the BC category, alleging this move eroded the rightful share of genuine BC communities.
Even in the GHMC elections, Rao said, claiming that in several BC-reserved seats, Majlis-backed and Muslim candidates have been elected as corporators under the BC umbrella, a trend he said was not seen earlier. He urged the BC community to seriously reflect on how this is affecting its reservation quota and warned that political parties are indulging in minority appeasement merely to secure Muslim votes.
Rao contrasted the Congress record with the BJP, noting that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who belongs to the OBC community, has ensured greater representation and welfare for BCs, while no Congress-ruled state today has a BC chief minister. He also recalled that during the Congress-led UPA tenure, not a single OBC was appointed as secretary among 102 officers, with only two from the ST community.
Targeting the state government, Rao questioned the functioning and funding of the MBC and BC corporations, demanding a White Paper on their performance. He called on the OBC Morcha workers to expose what he termed the Congress “betrayal” and take the BJP’s welfare message to every BC household.
