Nizamabad: For the first time, Telangana Irrigation officials released around 10,000 cusecs of water into Kakatiya, Saraswati, and Laxmi main canals from Sriramsagar project.

Presently, water level in Sriramsagar project is 1079.90 feet as against full reservoir level (FRL) of 1090.00 feet.

Though there are no inflows into the Sriramsagar project, officials have released 9,152 cusecs of water on Sunday. Kakatiya main canal received 6,500 cusecs, Mission Bhageeratha 231 cusecs, Alisagar 540 cusecs, Gutpa 405 cusecs, Saraswati canal 670 cusecs, and Laxmi canal 285 cusecs.

Currently, 44.713 TMC of water storage is available in the Sriramsagar project. Evaporation losses are expected to be 521 cusecs.

Following the rains, River Godavari brought 42.618 TMC of water into the Sriramsagar project from June 1, 2026. Outflows from the project from June 1 stand at 13.911 TMC till Sunday from June 1, 2026.

Owing to compulsions, water from the Lower Manair Dam (LMD) will be utilised for agriculture and drinking water needs in Nizamabad, Nirmal, Adilabad, Kamareddy, Jagtial, and Karimnagar districts.

Earlier, SRSP officials also released water into Kakatiya main canal for immersion of Ganesh idols in Jagtial and Karimnagar districts. At the time, officials had alerted people to stay away from the banks of SRSP canals in north Telangana districts to avoid any untoward incidents.
