Khammam: Sweltering temperatures failed to deter thousands of devotees who filled Mithila Stadium to witness the Sri Sita Rama Tiru Kalyana Mahotsavam, the celestial wedding of Lord Rama and Goddess Sita, on Sri Rama Navami.

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and his wife Geetha offered prayers at the Sri Sita Ramachandraswamy temple, where priests accorded them a traditional Vedic welcome.

The utsava idols reached the stadium in a colourful procession at 10 am, and priests began the marriage rituals at 10.10 am. Amid Vedic chants and cries of “Jai Sri Ram,” the divine couple were symbolically wed during the abhijit lagna at noon.

On behalf of the Telangana government, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy presented silk garments and Mutyala Talambralu (pearls mixed with turmeric and rice) to the deities. The idols were adorned with gold jewellery crafted by Bhakta Ramadasu, and priests performed the traditional jilakara–bellam ceremony before tying the nuptial knot.

Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, agriculture minister Tummala Nageswara Rao, MP Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, Chief Secretary Shanthi Kumari and Madhya Pradesh Chief Secretary Narahari took part in the celebrations.
