Film school prof accuses student of stalking

Hyderabad: Filmnagar police on Monday booked a former student of Ramanaidu Film School for stalking and harassing a professor even after she repeatedly warned of disciplinary action by the institution.

According to the police, the complainant stated that N. Bharath Reddy, a native of Anantapur district and a direction course student, began misbehaving with her within three months of joining in 2024. He sent her a proposal through WhatsApp which she rejected firmly and warned him not to repeat such behaviour.

Despite repeated warnings from her and the principal, his behaviour did not change which only led to his expulsion from the institute in February 2025, she said. The professor stated that after being removed, Bharath Reddy began harassing her through Instagram messages and even following her to personal spaces.

She added that after noticing one of her Instagram posts, he followed her to a DJ concert at a bar. He was seen trailing her again near the Writer’s Room Café inside Ramanaidu Studios.

Stating mental and physical distress due to his persistent stalking, the professor approached Filmnagar police. Based on her complaint, police registered a case and are investigating.

One killed in family land dispute

Hyderabad: A simmering two-decade-old land dispute between members of a family flared up in Dandumailaram under Ibrahimpatnam police limits on Sunday, resulting in the death of one person and another being seriously injured.

Ibrahimpatnam police said two groups clashed at about 9 am when Guddeti Srisailam and his family members began cultivating farmland in Survey No.s 156, 158, and 159, measuring about 18 acres. The dispute relates to a six-gunta portion of land which the complainant claims was his while other family members disputed it.

The disagreement dates back to 20 years when the grandfather of both parties distributed the land among his sons. While four sons received their respective shares, alleged irregularities in paperwork gave four grandchildren four to six guntas extra. Since then, the families have been fighting over the land.

In October 2024, both parties filed counter-cases against each other leading to which the court stated that no cultivation work should be carried out until the matter was settled. However, police said Srisailam continued cultivation which triggered Dhanraj and others and led to a clash.

As per the complaint, Dhanraj, a milk vendor, along with his relatives, confronted Srisailam’s family at the site. An altercation took place during which Srisailam, Balraj, Lingaswamy, Prasad, and Yadaiah attacked Dhanraj’s family with an axe and farm tools.

In the attack, Guddeti Balraju, 35, son of Mallaiah suffered severe injuries and was declared brought dead when taken to a private hospital in Ibrahimpatnam. His cousin Parvathalu and Dhanraj were injured, while Manjula, Parvathalu’s wife, is in critical condition. Members of Srisailam’s family including Parijatha were also injured.
