KARIMNAGAR: Sircilla weaver Veldi Hariprasad has created a shawl featuring images of members of the Dubai royal family, which the Emirates Telangana Cultural & Welfare Association (ETCA) plans to present to the family.

The presentation would be done during Bathukamma celebrations in Dubai.

ETCA approached Hariprasad to create the shawl as a gesture of gratitude to the Dubai royal family for providing employment to lakhs of people from Telangana. Based on the order, Hariprasad wove images of Dubai ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum on the shawl.

The two-metre-long and 48-inch-wide shawl was woven using silk fabric and 26 grams of silver. It also features a geographical map of Telangana and the words ‘Telangana Migrants’.

The shawl will be displayed during Bathukamma celebrations organised by ETCA at Al Ahil Sports Club in Dubai on October 11.

ETCA members will later present it to the ruler’s son, who has consented to participate in the celebrations.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Hariprasad said it took him 15 days to weave the shawl, working on a handloom for 18 to 20 hours a day. Prasad said he was happy to get an opportunity to weave this shawl.

Hariprasad had earlier attracted national attention by weaving the G20 logo on a single piece of cloth using a handloom. Prime Minister Narendra Modi appreciated his work while participating in the ‘Mann Ki Baat’ radio programme in November 2022.

He also recently wove a 5.50-metre silk saree in 170 minutes on National Handlooms Day. The saree was folded to fit into a matchbox.

Also, for the consecration of the Sri Rama temple in Ayodhya, he wove a gold saree for Goddess Sita and handed it over to the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust.

His other works include a saree featuring images of cricketer Sachin Tendulkar and his wife, a Pattu Peethambaram saree for Goddess Sita at Bhadrachalam and a national anthem woven on a single piece of cloth.

Earlier, Hariprasad had woven a saree that could be folded into a matchbox. It could pass through the eye of a needle.
