Hyderabad: Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu on Tuesday stated that the State government is implementing all necessary plans to ensure that Singareni, with its 136-year-old legacy, grows not merely as a local entity but as a global enterprise, with the Singareni flag flying worldwide.

He was speaking on Tuesday at a public meeting organised after the inauguration of the Singareni General Manager’s office at Sathupalli.

Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Chief Minister said that if Singareni limits itself only to coal production, its future could become uncertain. Therefore, instead of confining itself to coal mines alone, the Singareni management is considering participating in auctions for blocks related to rare earth minerals and critical minerals and securing those blocks.

He said his visits to mines, offices and review meetings were aimed solely at ensuring a bright future for Singareni. He said Singareni supplies coal not only within the state but also to other states for thermal power generation.

Earlier, coal mining was confined to public sector undertakings, but as part of changing times, the Centre is now auctioning coal mines. Private companies from across the world are participating in these auctions, coal is also being imported from abroad, and as a result, intense competition has emerged. In this context, he said, a historic organisation like Singareni must stand up to competition.

He stressed that Singareni must extract and supply quality coal and grow to a level where it can sell coal in line with market prices. He pointed out that the future of about 85,000 employees depends on Singareni, and therefore the state government is studying all changes in depth and formulating plans to remain competitive and achieve the top position.

The Deputy Chief Minister said that in addition to thermal power generation, the government is planning power generation in the green energy sector as well, including solar, hydro, battery storage, pumped storage and hydrogen.

He reiterated that in a highly competitive world, if Singareni confines itself only to coal production, issues related to market pricing and procurement could jeopardise the company’s future. Hence, Singareni is being steered beyond coal mining towards the extraction and production of rare earth and critical minerals.

He said that without being satisfied with coal mines alone, the state government, through Singareni, is formulating plans to compete for and secure blocks for lithium, graphite and copper as well.

The Deputy Chief Minister said global tenders were floated and expert advice was taken on which countries and states Singareni could enter, and on steps needed to ensure a bright future for Telangana. He informed that Singareni has become a partner by securing tenders for gold and copper mining in Karnataka.

He said the state government has prepared plans to ensure that all coal blocks in Telangana are secured by Singareni, and that Singareni will also participate in coal block auctions in other states and win tenders there as well.

He said Singareni is producing thermal power on a large scale at Jaipur, and has grown to a stage where the Rajasthan government has become a partner in 800 MW of thermal power generation. He added that Singareni is also moving ahead in green energy and is already producing floating solar power.

He further stated that Singareni will participate in a joint venture with the Rajasthan government for the production of 1,500 MW of solar power. He emphasised that Singareni is expanding on multiple fronts — not only coal production, but also thermal power, solar power, floating solar, pumped storage, rare earth minerals and critical minerals.

Stating that Singareni belongs to everyone, the Deputy Chief Minister said the organisation must be protected, profits must be increased, and workers must realise the need to constantly update themselves so that future generations can continue to depend on Singareni for their livelihoods.

He concluded by saying that this is not just an important day for Telangana, but for the entire country, as it is a matter of pride and happiness to celebrate the success of the historic Singareni organisation, which has completed 136 successful years and is stepping into its 137th year.
