Hyderabad: One year after the deadly blast at the Sigachi Pharma plant in Pashamylaram, survivors and families of the deceased gathered at Sundrayya Vignana Kendram on Tuesday, demanding justice and better support.

The round table conference, organised by the Telangana People’s Joint Action Committee (TPJAC), saw victims, activists and members of various organisations allege that both the state government and Sigachi Pharma failed to adequately support those affected.

TPJAC’s Kanneganti Ravi said: “Fifty‑four people died that day, and more than 28 were injured. Only 46 bodies were recovered, and eight have not been found to this day.”

Several victims and families said they are still struggling to rebuild their lives. They alleged that no one received the full amount promised by the government or Sigachi, and many injured victims received less than Rs 10 lakh for treatment.

Rajesh Kumar, a worker severely injured in the accident, said he only received Rs 10 lakh. “Every few days I have to get my injuries cleaned and bandaged. My family spent all of those 10 lakhs within months, and I stopped receiving my salary too now,” he said.

Committee representatives questioned the negligence of the government and Sigachi. “Chief Minister Revanth Reddy visited the accident site on July 1, 2025 and promised to compensate each deceased victim’s family with Rs 1 crore. Even Sigachi informed the Bombay Stock Exchange in writing the next day. But Assembly documents show the government issued on average only Rs 45.40 lakh to each family,” they said.

The committee added: “The company, in one of its counter affidavits, stated that it paid Rs 42 lakh to each victim and claimed it was a ‘composite payment,’ including state and central government’s payments, PF, ESI, gratuity and insurance.”

Victims and representatives demanded that the government and Sigachi release the remaining compensation and extend support to families.
