Seethakka Directs Officials To Prepare Summer Drinking Water Plan

HANUMAKONDA: Rural water supply minister Dhanasari Anasuya Seethakka has directed officials to prepare a comprehensive action plan to prevent drinking water shortages in rural areas during the summer season.
Seethakka reviewed the functioning of her panchayat raj, rural development departments, the El Nino preparedness, VB-G RAM G, Rural Water Supply (RWS) and Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM) roads with officials of the erstwhile Warangal and Khammam districts at the Hanamkonda collectorate on Friday.
She directed the officials to continuously monitor water sources, reservoirs, borewells, motors and pipelines in rural areas. Water levels in major and minor water sources should be reviewed regularly to assess availability during summer, she said.
The minister called for a recharge pit in every household, a farm pond for every crop and a percolation pond in every village. Priority should be given to check dams and borewell recharge works to improve groundwater levels, she said.
Officials were instructed to respond immediately to disruptions in drinking water supply and repair damaged motors and pipelines without delay. They were also asked to inspect drinking water facilities in schools and government institutions and ensure that the water supplied to people was clean and safe.
Seethakka directed the officials to expedite HAM road works and ensure road connectivity from every habitation to the respective village and from villages to mandal headquarters.
Special chief secretary M. Dana Kishore said the progress of works under the VB-G RAM G scheme should be reviewed every 15 days while ensuring employment for labourers.
SERP CEO Divya Devarajan said advance measures should be taken for rainwater conservation and groundwater augmentation, keeping the possible impact of El Niño in view.
