Section 22A Issue: Ponguleti Must Resign, Says Harish
BRS leader T. Harish Rao demands Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy’s resignation over alleged wrongful inclusion of properties in the Section 22A list.
Senior BRS leader T. Harish Rao on Friday accused the Telangana government of causing major distress for lakhs of families in the state by placing land parcels in the Section 22A prohibited list. He demanded the resignation of revenue minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy who, he said, should accept responsibility for the 22A issues.
Speaking with some families impacted by the government decision, Harish Rao said Section 22-A was originally introduced to protect government, assigned, endowment, Waqf and other protected lands.
Harish Rao said there were cases across the state of properties added to the 22-A list without proper verification as was the case with 30,000 acres in Sirpur-Kagaznagar, 11,000 houses in Mancherial, and large areas in other districts.
He said letters from all 33 district collectors establish how the new prohibited lists were prepared. He alleged that GO No. 179 was issued on December 31, 2025, directing Collectors to provide details of lands for inclusion under 22-A. He also said an order was issued on September 11, 2025 for preparation of a new prohibited list, followed by lists and gazette notifications in various districts.
“We wanted to discuss this issue in the Assembly. That is why, I believe, the government did not want us in the Assembly,” he alleged.
He said Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s own house appeared in the 22-A list and was removed after the issue was raised. “If the Chief Minister’s property can be removed overnight, why are ordinary people being forced to run from office to office?” he asked.
