Hyderabad:From September 1, the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) will introduce night services exclusive to the IT corridor and high-traffic areas in Hyderabad. The services will operate between 10 pm and 5 am with a frequency of 30 minutes to one hour.

Earlier, RTC had run similar services under the ‘Night Riders’ banner, but discontinued them due to poor occupancy. Officials said the decision to relaunch was based on a study showing increased demand, with Hyderabad’s nightlife, late work shifts and movement of commuters even after midnight creating the need for secure public transport.

Greater Hyderabad Zone executive director A. Sridhar said, “Fifteen buses will operate on six routes, concentrating on the IT corridor and heavy traffic stretches. Depending on demand, more buses will be added.” He added that RTC aimed to provide safe travel and was taking all necessary measures to make the initiative successful.

The initial routes include:

· No. 10H: Secunderabad to Kondapur via Wave Rock

· No. 219: Secunderabad to Patancheru

· No. 290U: Secunderabad to Hayatnagar

· No. 218: Koti to Patancheru

· No. 222A: Koti to Patancheru via KBR

· No. 195W: Bachupally to Wave Rock

Officials said the services would benefit those without private transport, who otherwise depend on app-based cabs or autos late at night. The corporation expects the initiative to ease commuting for IT employees, late-shift workers and others travelling during night hours.
