Road Works Worth Rs 78,000cr Under Progress In TG, No Scam In HAM Road Contracts: Komatireddy
Roads and buildings minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy said road development works, worth nearly Rs 78,000 crore, are currently being executed across Telangana with financial support from both the state and Central governments.
NALGONDA: Roads and buildings minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy said road development works, worth nearly Rs 78,000 crore, are currently being executed across Telangana with financial support from both the state and Central governments.
The minister on Sunday participated in the launching of 441 hybrid annuity model (HAM) road works by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy in Kanagal in Nalgonda district. Addressing the public meeting, Venkat Reddy dismissed allegations by BRS leaders regarding irregularities in awarding HAM road contracts.
Venkat Reddy said roads covering 6,092.37 km will be developed under HAM at an estimated cost of `13,006.27 crore. The CM also laid the foundation stone for Phase-I of the Nalgonda Municipal Corporation drinking water scheme to be taken up at a cost of `83 crore.
Criticising the previous BRS government, Venkat Reddy said that road infrastructure had been neglected for the past 10 years. Despite financial constraints, he said, the Congress government had already undertaken road works worth `6,500 crore using state funds. With the launch of another `13,006.27 crore worth of HAM road projects, he said Telangana’s transport infrastructure would witness a major transformation.
He said the government’s objective was to connect every mandal headquarters with district headquarters through double-lane roads, which would improve connectivity, attract industries, generate employment and ensure safer travel.
Venkat Reddy said detailed project reports were also being prepared for several major infrastructure projects, including the Hyderabad-Vijayawada six-lane National Highway, a Greenfield Highway connecting Kanagal and Gurrampodu to Bandar and a proposed bullet train corridor. He said these projects would play a vital role in accelerating Telangana’s economic growth.
The minister asserted that the HAM tendering process had been completely transparent and that all details were available in the public domain. He said the agreements also placed the responsibility of maintaining the roads with the contractors for 15 years, ensuring quality and long-term upkeep.
The minister also accused previous governments of neglecting key irrigation projects such as the Sriramsagar project and the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC). He said the present government had accelerated works on the SLBC project and was committed to completing the world’s longest irrigation tunnel by August 2028.
