Revanth Urges Centre to Fast-Track Adilabad, Mamunur Airports
Revanth Reddy seeks faster airport development and stronger air connectivity
Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Wednesday urged civil aviation minister K. Ram Mohan Naidu to expedite the development of the Adilabad and Mamunur (Warangal) airports in Telangana and sought the Centre’s support for strengthening air connectivity and aviation infrastructure in the State.
The Chief Minister also sought the Centre’s cooperation in promoting heli-tourism in Telangana through helicopter services, stating that the initiative would provide a further boost to the state’s tourism sector and improve connectivity to tourist destinations.
Civil Aviation officials informed Revanth Reddy that a report on the proposed landing of seaplanes in Hussainsagar would be submitted to the Telangana government within two weeks. The proposal is aimed at exploring new modes of connectivity and adding another attraction to Hyderabad’s tourism infrastructure.
Revanth Reddy made these requests during a meeting with Ram Mohan Naidu at the Union civil aviation ministry’s office in Delhi. The Chief Minister informed the Union minister that the Telangana government had completed and handed over the required land acquisition for the development of Mamunur airport.
Ram Mohan Naidu informed the Chief Minister that tenders for the Mamunur airport works would be invited within two weeks and finalised by December, with the foundation stone for the project scheduled to be laid in the same month.
On the Adilabad airport, Revanth Reddy sought the establishment of both cargo and passenger terminals, besides Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facilities, to make the airport a comprehensive aviation hub. He also requested the Union minister to convene a joint meeting of the defence and civil aviation ministries to finalise the runway-related issues at Adilabad airport and facilitate commencement of the works at the earliest.
Revanth Reddy stressed the importance of developing aviation infrastructure in different parts of Telangana to support tourism, trade, industry and regional connectivity. The proposed facilities at Adilabad and Mamunur are expected to strengthen air connectivity in northern and eastern Telangana, respectively.
MPs Suresh Shetkar and M. Anil Kumar Yadav, Chief Secretary Sanjay Jaju, CMO secretary Manicka Raj and other officials participated in the meeting.
