Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Wednesday lashed out at Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat for stating that India had attained "true independence" only after the consecration of the Ram temple in Ayodhya.

Speaking to media persons at the inauguration of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) headquarters in New Delhi on Wednesday, Revanth Reddy demanded stern action against Bhagwat, stating that his comments violated the Constitution.

The Chief Minister also targeted the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), accusing the party of aligning with the RSS and echoing the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) narrative in Telangana. He further accused the BRS of functioning as a “shadow of the RSS” and termed BRS as “BRSS” for adhering to what he claimed was the Sangh’s ideology.

“They (RSS) didn’t sacrifice their lives for freedom. Therefore, they aren’t ready to accept it. If Mohan Bhagwat has said anything against the Constitution, action must be taken,” Revanth Reddy said.

Echoing the criticism of the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, the Chief Minister termed Bhagwat's comments as "treasonous" and accused the RSS of having no role in India’s freedom struggle.

Revanth Reddy challenged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to clarify whether he supports Bhagwat’s statement or stands with the martyrs who fought for India’s independence. He alleged that the BJP was attempting to divert public attention from Bhagwat's controversial remarks by stoking communal and ideological tensions.

The Chief Minister also dismissed the BRS’s criticism of his government’s alleged misuse of

power, particularly in the aftermath of recent law-and-order issues involving the opposition.

He said that his government does not need to take lessons from the BRS and stressed the Congress government's commitment to upholding law and order in Telangana.

“The Congress government ensures that the law runs its course. If there’s an attack on anyone or a disruption of law and order, the police will intervene and register criminal cases,” Revanth Reddy stated.

He accused the previous BRS government of misusing police force to target Congress offices, contrasting it with the present Congress administration’s impartial stance. He assured that his government is working to rectify any past mistakes.

Revanth Reddy along with a few of his Cabinet ministers participated in the inauguration of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) office in New Delhi, marking a significant milestone for the 140-year-old party. The Chief Minister described the new office as a platform for shaping the country’s progress and addressing the needs of its citizens.

“This office will serve as the nerve center for plans to strengthen and empower the country. It’s from here that strategies for a strong and prosperous India will be drawn,” he said.

Revanth Reddy highlighted the Congress’ historic contributions, including drafting the Constitution by Dr B.R. Ambedkar. He reaffirmed the party’s commitment to the welfare and development of marginalised groups, including tribals, Dalits, weaker sections, and minorities.

Reflecting on the party’s legacy, Revanth Reddy said, “For 140 years, the Congress has selflessly served the people of this country. Building this office after so many years is a testament to our dedication.”

He contrasted the financial conditions of the Congress with those of the 40-year-old BJP and regional parties, emphasising the Congress’ transparent and people-centric approach.
