Repeated Arrest of N.Ramchander Rao Motivates BJP Cadre

Hyderabad: The repeated arrest and preventive detention of Telangana BJP president N. Ramchander Rao have energised the party cadre, with leaders claiming that each crackdown has only strengthened the BJP’s resolve and given fresh momentum to activists across the state.

Party sources said Rao has been placed under house arrest or taken into preventive custody at least seven times in recent months, mostly to block rallies, marches and visits linked to farmers’ distress, student fee reimbursement, attacks on party leaders and other controversies.

The latest episode came on Tuesday, when Rao was arrested at Jadcherla while leading a delegation to the Jurala Project in Jogulamba Gadwal district to support farmers demanding release of irrigation water to save drying crops. This was his fifth arrest since August 11. Before that, he had been detained while protesting only twice in this year.

BJP Telangana vice-president Dr G. Manohar Reddy said the repeated detention of Rao has exposed the “failure and fear” of the Congress government and is helping the party connect better with the public.

“The Congress government is failing on farmers’ issues, student dues and law and order. Instead of answering questions, it is arresting our leaders. This is creating resentment among the people,” he said, adding that every detention is being seen by activists as a call to intensify protests.

He claimed the series of arrests has given the party greater visibility, sharper messaging and higher participation in rallies, with district units reporting a surge in volunteers ready to join street agitations.

Chronology of key detentions/arrests

Sept. 22 – Jurala Irrigation Project protest: Arrested at Jadcherla while heading to Jurala to support farmers demanding release of irrigation water.

Sept. 7 – Assembly siege: Arrested near Gun Park while leading a march demanding release of ₹15,000 crore in pending student fee reimbursements and scholarships.

Sept. 1 – Secretariat march: Detained while trying to submit letters from about eight lakh students on fee reimbursement dues.

 Aug. 26 – Nalgonda visit: Placed under house arrest, then shifted to a police station, to block his visit after alleged ransacking of a local BJP leader’s house.

Aug. 11 – Banjara Hills shrine: House arrest to prevent inspection of a roadside shrine where a newly extended portion was demolished.

March 23 – Assembly protest: Arrested during a large demonstration over non-implementation of the Congress “six guarantees”.

Feb. 21 – Kamareddy/Banswara clashes: House arrest and later shifted to Bolarum police station to stop his visit amid communal tension.
