Life Convict Escapes from Nellore Central Prison; Hunt On
Suresh was being held in connection with a case and was under judicial custody at the time of his escape.
Nellore: A 40-year-old convict undergoing life imprisonment escaped from Nellore Central Prison on Tuesday evening, triggering a manhunt by jail and police authorities. The prisoner, identified as Indla Suresh, hailing from Gandhijanasangam village in Sangam mandal, was lodged in the prison in 2011 in a murder case.
Due to his good behaviour, Suresh was shifted to the open jail five years ago and was working on the prison’s 50-acre agricultural farm, where inmates cultivate vegetables and other green crops. His absence was noticed during a routine headcount around 7 pm, when prisoners return from the fields to their cells.
Superintendent of Central Prison, Dr V. Sanyasi Rao, stated that Suresh was under consideration for early release due to his consistent good conduct. “He could have been released within a year, but now he has ruined that opportunity,” Dr. Rao remarked.
Three special teams have been formed to trace the escapee and a complaint has been filed with Venkatachalam police. Circle inspector Subba Rao confirmed that the police had also launched a parallel search operation. Authorities remain confident that Suresh would be traced and apprehended soon.
