A 38-year-old real estate broker died by suicide after jumping from the sixth floor of his hostel building in Gachibowli on Monday morning.
According to Raidurgam police, the deceased, Talluri Subbarao, a native of Kanigiri in Prakasam district, was residing at King’s Loft PG in Anjaiah Nagar. His family members told police that he has been depressed for the past two months, reportedly over financial issues.
Woman held for murdering husband, staging accident
A woman who murdered her husband and attempted to portray the death as a road accident was arrested by Medipally police after discrepancies were found in her version.
The accused, Sunitha, 44, tied her husband Satyanarayana, 51, with a saree and beat him with a rod during a domestic dispute on August 6. He had returned home around midnight after completing his night duty. A quarrel broke out after Satyanarayana consumed alcohol and abused her, following which she attacked him.
Sunitha tied his hands and legs with a saree and repeatedly struck him on the head and body. He lost consciousness. She then called their son Nikith, claiming Satyanarayana had met with a road accident. He was shifted to a private hospital in Boduppal and later to Gandhi Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Police initially registered the case under Section 106(1) of the BNS, treating it as a road accident. However, investigators suspected foul play after examining the circumstances. Scene inspection, postmortem report, medical opinion and CCTV footage revealed no evidence of an accident.
During questioning, Sunitha admitted to tying her husband and attacking him with a stick. Police altered the case to Sections 103(1) and 238 of the BNS. She was arrested and remanded.
6 kg ganja hidden in sound box seized
Five persons who had concealed ganja in a sound box of an autorickshaw and were transporting the contraband to a customer were intercepted by the EAGLE Force’s STF and Pet Basheerabad police teams near GVK EMRI Pet Basheerabad and arrested them along with the drugs.
During the search of the autorickshaw bearing registration number TG 13 T2 464, six kg ganja hidden inside the sound box of the vehicle were seized in the early hours of Monday, Sandeep Shandilya, director, EAGLE Force said.
The arrested accused were identified as Mohammed Hamid, 30, Mohammed Abbas 30, Mohammed Mustafa, 25, Irfan Khan, 29, Sayyad Afroz, 23, while other accused Shaik Sadiq of Nagpur was absconding, the EAGLE Force director, said.
Shop owner gets 20 years’ RI in Pocso case
A 57-year-old shop owner was sentenced to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) by the Fast Track Special Judge for Trial and Disposal of Rape and Pocso Act cases for sexually assaulting a seven-year-old girl in March 2023.
The accused, Mohammed Nazeer Miya was convicted under Section 376AB of the IPC and Section 5(m) with Section 6 of the Pocso Act. The court imposed a fine of ₹1,000 under each provision and awarded ₹5 lakh compensation to the victim.
According to police, on March 27, 2023, the girl went to Nazeer’s shop near her house to purchase a milk packet. The accused took her inside the shop on the pretext of giving her the packet and sexually assaulted her. The girl cried out in pain and later returned home, where she narrated the incident to her mother.
Police arrested Nazeer on March 31, 2023, and filed a chargesheet after completing the investigation. Following a full-fledged trial, Judge T. Srinivas convicted him and awarded the sentence.

6 held with stolen gold worth ₹7.4 L
Six suspect-sheeters wanted in attention diversion case, were arrested by the police and seven tola gold worth ₹7.4 lakh also recovered from their possession.
The gang members on August 1, after diverting the attention of a retired bank employee Dama Mohan, 71, at his house in Langar Houz, had fled with the gold SHO Langar Houz B. Venkatramulu said.
Based on a complaint filed by Dama Mohan, the accused persons were arrested from near a hotel in Tolichowki and stolen gold ornaments were recovered from their possession.
The arrested were identified as Syed Asad, 46, Omer Khan, 27, Syed Moin, 34, Azar Hussain, 24, Mohd Ibrahim, 30, and Syed Abdul Majeed, 35, all suspect sheeters. Besides, stolen gold jewelleries, an autorickshaw (bearing registration number TG 11 T 5919), a bike having registration number AP 11 AD 3426 and six mobile phones used in the crime were seized from them.
The six accused along with the seized property were produced before the court for judicial remand.
15-year-old boy dies of electrocution
A 15-year-old boy died of electrocution under the Panjagutta police station limits. According to the police, V. Vijay, resident of Pratapnagar, Panjagutta, was electrocuted at his workplace, Balaji Tiffin Centre, Panjagutta on Sunday midnight. The tiffin centre manager complained with the police stating Vijay died because he did not take adequate safety measures while turning the stitch on.
20 injured as RTC bus rams into lorry in Jagtial
About 20 passengers were injured in a road accident near Kondagattu in Mallial mandal of Jagtial district on Monday.
The accident occurred when a TGSRTC bus travelling from Karimnagar to Nizamabad rammed into a lorry coming from the opposite direction. The bus, belonging to the Karimnagar depot, was carrying around 50 passengers at the time of the accident.
While about 20 passengers sustained injuries, four of them were seriously injured. They were shifted to the Jagtial Government Hospital for treatment.
On learning about the incident, Additional Collector B. Raja Goud visited the hospital and consoled the injured passengers. He said those seriously injured had been shifted to the critical care centre.
Responding to the incident, Welfare Minister Adluri Laxman Kumar assured that the State government would provide the best possible treatment to the injured passengers.
He spoke to collector B. Satya Prasad and Superintendent of Police Ashok Kumar over the phone and enquired about the accident. He instructed the Collector to ensure proper treatment for the injured passengers.
The minister also directed the SP to conduct an inquiry into the accident and take action against those responsible.
Transport minister Ponnam Prabhakar also spoke to the collector and SP regarding the incident. Union minister of state for home Bandi Sanjay Kumar also responded to the accident.
Two rice millers arrested over ₹24.18-crore CMR rice misuse
Sultanabad police arrested two rice millers for allegedly misappropriating custom milling rice (CMR) worth ₹24.18 crore.
Producing the accused before the media at the Sultanabad police station on Monday, Peddapalli DCP B. Ram Reddy explained the details of the alleged CMR rice misappropriation.
The arrested persons were identified as Renikunta Madhu, managing partner, and Renikunta Ravinder, a partner of Laxmi Industries at Suglampalli in Sultanabad mandal of Peddapalli district.
The Civil Supplies Department had allocated 10,015.636 metric tonnes of paddy to Laxmi Industries under the CMR scheme for 2023-24. Of the 6,662.880 metric tonnes of rice to be handed over to the government, the mill had supplied only 1,577.289 metric tonnes so far.
The remaining quantity of rice was found missing when Civil Supplies Department officials inspected the rice mill on August 6. After verifying the records, the officials concluded that a substantial quantity of CMR rice was missing.
Civil supplies district manager Muppidi Srikanth lodged a complaint with Sultanabad police. Based on the complaint, police registered a case and arrested the accused.
Two die after entering well to repair pump set
Two brothers died after allegedly suffocating while attempting to repair a pump set inside a well at Panasapeta village in Santhakaviti mandal of Vizianagaram district.
The deceased were identified as M. Vishnu Murthy (23) and his elder brother, M. Ramakrishna, both residents of Majjilapeta. The brothers had come to their grandfather’s house and entered the well to repair the pump set. They allegedly suffocated and died inside the well.
Police registered a case and launched an investigation.
Man gets life term for ’16 murder of Congolese wife
A 45-year-old man was sentenced to life imprisonment and fined Rs 25,000 by the X Additional District and Sessions Judge, Rajendranagar, for murdering his Congolese wife and destroying evidence of the crime in 2016.
According to Shamshabad police, the accused, Rupesh Kumar Mohanani, was convicted under Sections 302 and 201 of the IPC. On July 4, 2016, villagers of Madanapally noticed flames and smoke coming from an isolated area near Green City Venture. They found an SUV stuck in the mud, with Mohanani and his minor daughter nearby. A short distance away, dismembered human body parts were found burning. The deceased was identified as Cynthia Vechel, a Congolese national and Mohanani’s wife.
Police said Mohanani married Cynthia in 2008 and they had a daughter. After the family shifted to Hyderabad, matrimonial disputes arose, particularly over Cynthia’s desire to leave India with their daughter and her continued contact with a former boyfriend in France.
On the intervening night of July 3 and 4, following a heated quarrel, Mohanani strangled Cynthia at their residence. He then dismembered her body using an axe and knives, packed the remains in bags and transported them in his SUV to an isolated location near Madanapally. He poured petrol over the remains and set them on fire to destroy the evidence.
During the investigation, police collected material objects, CCTV footage and forensic evidence and conducted DNA tests to establish Cynthia’s identity and link the accused to the offence. A chargesheet was subsequently filed.
After a full-fledged trial, the court convicted Mohanani and sentenced him to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of `25,000.
Venkampadu sarpanch killed in road accident
A village sarpanch was killed in a road accident at Giripuram village in Maripeda mandal of Mahabubabad district on Monday evening.
According to local residents, Venkampadu village sarpanch Somanna was riding a motorcycle when a Tata Ace vehicle allegedly rammed into his bike near the Muthyalamma temple at Giripuram. He sustained severe injuries in the accident.
Locals rushed Somanna to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. Police registered a case and launched an investigation into the accident.
