Rat Bites Patient In MGM Hospital
Rat bite incident exposes sanitation lapses at MGM Hospital
Patient bitten by rat in MGM Hospital orthopaedic ward
A patient in the orthopaedic department, recovering from a leg amputation, was bitten by a rat at the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial (MGM) Hospital, which has witnessed a series of such incidents.
When the patient alerted the staff, they administered a TT injection. Upon learning of the incident, his relatives rushed to the hospital and quarreled with the staff over the poor condition at the premier institution. They attempted to get his discharged against medical advice, though hospital personnel warned them that the patient could contract an infection.
In the first week of December viral videos showed rats roaming in the incubator ward at the Chanda Kantha Memorial (CKM) Government Maternity Hospital, also in Warangal.
The primary cause of the dangerous infestation across both hospitals is attributed to poor sanitation management, despite the allocation of significant funds for cleanliness.
Among the several cases of rat bites at the MGM Hospital, a patient named P. Srinivas, undergoing treatment for lung and kidney-related ailments, had died after he was bitten by rodents and had bled heavily before being discovered by medical staff.
