Hyderabad:Continuous rainfall and rising humidity could trigger a spurt in vector-borne diseases such as dengue, malaria and chikungunya, the Directorate of Public Health warned on Saturday.
The advisory followed an IMD forecast of light to moderate rainfall across Telangana for the next seven days, with heavy to very heavy rain likely in the next 24 hours. Officials said the conditions could also heighten the risk of waterborne and airborne infections.
The Director of Public Health and Family Welfare urged residents to prevent mosquito breeding by avoiding water stagnation, covering septic tanks with mesh, and securing doors and windows with nets or screens. People were advised to use repellents and observe ‘Friday Dry Day’ weekly to clear stagnant water.

Those developing flu-like symptoms such as cough with fever, headache, sore throat and body pain were advised to visit the nearest government health facility.
The government has arranged special beds, IV fluids and essential medicines at public health centres. ORS sachets and medicines have also been stocked with ANMs, ASHAs and Anganwadi workers.
