Provide New Building For Tarnaka Girls' School or Face Summons, Telangana HC Warns Chief Secretary
Justice Chalapathi Rao questioned government counsels on the difficulty in allotting two quarters on a temporary basis for the school
Hyderabad: A vacation bench of the Telangana High Court on Friday directed the government to allocate new school buildings for the 65-year-old Government Girls Primary School (Sitaphalmandi- II ) Vijaya Dairy School at Hanumannagar, Tarnaka, and said the Chief Secretary would have to appear before the court if this was not done.
The school, serving children since 1961, functions out of two highly dilapidated ‘D’ type staff quarters.
Justice Suddala Chalapathi Rao was hearing a petition filed by a group of parents of students studying at the school, challenging the inaction of authorities on their repeated representations to shift the school, particularly with the new academic year set to begin in a few days.
Justice Chalapathi Rao questioned government counsels on the difficulty in allotting two quarters on a temporary basis for the school. When the government was keen to provide international standard academics and better infrastructure to all educational institutions, why was it neglecting the allocation of new or better buildings to the school, the judge asked.
“Do not delay on this. By the next date of hearing , if you do not come with positive directions to the education department, we will summon the Chief Secretary. Be cautious of that,” the judge remarked while adjourning the matter for further hearing.
Appearing for the petitioners, counsel Chikkudu Prabhakar submitted that parents had approached authorities seeking allocation of a portion of the vacant 42-acre land parcel, previously leased to the Vijaya Dairy Federation, for the construction of a modern upgraded school, especially in light of the state government’s policy to overhaul urban public education.
