Land Cost For North RRRail Crosses ₹6,900 Crore
The issue was taken up with the Centre, and Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy personally raised the matter with Union railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in Delhi
Hyderabad: Land acquisition costs for the Hyderabad Regional Ring Rail (RRRail) northern segment have been pegged at `6,900 crore. This rail corridor is designed to run parallel to the Hyderabad Regional Ring Road (RRR) project.
The revised rail alignment survey report submitted to the state government estimated that 7,567 acres needed to be acquired for this project. The government will bear the land acquisition cost. The survey for the southern segment is yet to be conducted.
Official sources said the revised first phase alignment comprising RRRail-North would will extend 174.5 km, compared to the 161.58 km finalised earlier. Following the completion of the LiDAR survey, South Central Railway (SCR) has informed the state government that the detailed project report (DPR) for the northern section will be prepared shortly.
As per the earlier alignment prepared by the railways, the combined northern and southern segments of the RRRail project were expected to cover around 392 km. Officials indicated that the latest alignment revisions could result in a marginal reduction in the overall length of the project.
Officials have finalised RRRoad-North from Girmapur near Sangareddy to Thangadapalli near Choutuppal, and the RRRail-North corridor is expected to largely follow the same route. The rail line is proposed to pass through areas including Masaipet, Appaipalli and the vicinity of the Rayagiri station.
The RRRail-South will be taken up in the second phase. However, the LiDAR survey was yet to be commenced and was expected to take more time. The state government has finalised the alignment for the southern section and submitted it to the Centre for approval.
Railway authorities said the survey could begin only after the Union government granted clearance. Although June 2026 was initially fixed as the deadline for the southern segment DPR, the delay in starting the survey is likely to push the schedule further.
The project received approval from the Centre for surveying on June 21, 2023. Subsequently, SCR officials carried out surveys and finalised the alignment. Since the proposed rail corridor ran parallel to the state government's RRRoad in some areas and diverged in others, the state government expressed concerns over the need for separate land acquisition for both projects.
The issue was taken up with the Centre, and Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy personally raised the matter with Union railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in Delhi. Following the discussions, the original rail alignment was modified to run closer to the RRRoad, reducing duplication in land acquisition requirements.
