Hyderabad: Several women along with the victim’s family members protested on Sunday before the Petbasheerabad police station demanding the arrest of Bandi Sai Bageerath, the son of Union minister Bandi Sanjay in the Pocso Act case registered against him. Some of the women demanded that the police explain the delay in arresting the accused. Protestors also raised slogans calling on Sanjay to resign as Union minister.

The case against Bageerath was registered on the night of May 8 following a complaint lodged by the mother of the 17-year-old victim, alleging that Bageerath had sexually assaulted the minor at a farmhouse in Moinabad on December 31.
According to the first information report (FIR), Bageerath allegedly invited the girl to the farmhouse where his friends, including five boys and two girls, were present. The complaint alleged that despite her resistance, she was pressured into consuming alcohol and between 1.30 am and 2.30 am, Bhageerath, in an intoxicated condition, entered her room and sexually assaulted her.
The complaint also referred to subsequent digital communication between the two, alleging that the accused repeatedly apologised to the girl and acknowledged causing her emotional distress and harm. The girl’s family further alleged that the minor had attempted suicide twice, on January 19 and January 26, due to severe emotional trauma.

According to the complaint, the family faced pressure and attempts to dissuade them after they began pursuing legal action in the matter. Hours before the Pocso case was registered, Bageerath lodged a separate complaint at the Karimnagar Town-I police station alleging that he was being blackmailed and harassed by the girl’s family.

“We have registered a case and the statement of victim will be recorded. The cases (filed by the victim and Bageerath) are being investigated separately and we will soon take appropriate action as per law,” a police officer stated.

In a statement, Sanjay today said: “Some people are dragging children and family members into politics without being able to face me.” This, he said, was proof of the helplessness of those who did not have the courage to fight him politically, Referring to the allegations against his son, Sanjay, in a post on X said: "I have respect for the law and full faith in the judiciary.i will abide by the Constitution of India till the end of my life.” He allegd that “some forces” could not digest the elevation of a man from a Backward Caste community from a common family rising to the rank of Union minister.
