Hyderabad: As part of a series of protests planned to put pressure on the Centre to withdraw the Waqf Amendment Act, the All India Muslim Personal Law Board had called on the people to take part in `lights-off’ protest on Wednesday, April 30. AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi on Tuesday appealed to the people to take part in the programme from 9 pm to 9.15 pm by switching off the lights at their homes to send a message to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

He said the message should reach the Prime Minister that the Act was in violation of the Constitution, fundamental rights and Articles 14, 15, 25, and 26 of the Constitution. The Act was especially an intervention into the affairs of the Waqf Board, he said.

The Muslim Personal Law Board had also announced plans to form a human chain on May 25. To involve Muslim women, the board will be holding a public meeting for women at Masab Tank on May 22. A protest meeting is also on the cards at Dharna Chowk near Indira Park on June 1.
