Power Infrastructure To Be Strengthened To Meet Future Demand: Tummala

Laying the foundation stone for a 33/11 KV sub-station at Raghunadhapalem in Khammam district on Monday, the minister said the government was focusing on upgrading urban infrastructure and civic amenities in line with population growth. He directed officials to expedite the works and complete them within the stipulated time-frame.

Tummala advised officials to prepare a long-term plan for expanding power infrastructure, particularly in rapidly growing urban areas. He also asked them to identify suitable locations for additional sub-stations in Khammam and prepare proposals for the required funds.

He said proposals for new sub-stations should be processed expeditiously, noting that deputy chief minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, who handles the electricity department, represents the district.

Earlier, reviewing development works with officials at Gudugulapalli in Dammapeta mandal of Bhadradri Kothagudem district, the minister asked revenue and forest officials to conduct a joint survey to resolve issues relating to podu lands.

Forest officials, he said, should promote the cultivation of indigenous forest species instead of jamail trees and asked Oilfed officials to ensure the timely supply of oil palm saplings to farmers.

Referring to delays in land acquisition for the canals of the SeethaRama Lift Irrigation Scheme, Tummala directed revenue and irrigation officials to hold discussions with farmers and ensure their cooperation. Completion of the canal’s works would help provide irrigation to nearly one lakh acres in Aswaraopeta and Sathupalli mandals.

The minister also suggested redesigning the canal network by replacing distributary canals with pipelines wherever feasible. He called upon officials of various departments to work in coordination for the timely implementation of infrastructure and development projects.
