Hyderabad: The state government on Friday conducted a draw of lots to select beneficiaries for flats under the Indiramma Housing Towers scheme in the Hyderabad Core Urban Region (CURE) limits, marking the beginning of the beneficiary selection process for nearly 8,000 flats across 16 Assembly constituencies.

The first phase of the draw was held for beneficiaries in Nampally, Quthbullapur, Secunderabad and Rajendranagar constituencies. Telangana Housing Corporation MD V.P. Gautham said the draw would continue till August 31, covering four constituencies a day.
He said 600 beneficiaries would be shortlisted through the draw for 480 flats in each constituency. The shortlisted applicants would undergo field-level verification by officials. If any of those selected were found ineligible, eligible applicants from the remaining 120 would be considered. This process, he said, was aimed at ensuring that the benefits reached genuinely eligible poor families.
The government has set a target of constructing one lakh houses in the first phase within the CURE limits. Gautham said the process of identifying sites had been completed in another four Assembly constituencies and applications for Indiramma houses in those constituencies would be accepted until September 3.
Beneficiaries would be given registration free of cost. After 10 years, they would be allowed to sell the house, depending on their requirements. In case of an emergency before the 10-year period, beneficiaries would also be able to mortgage the registration document with a bank and obtain a loan, he said.
Each selected beneficiary would be provided a house measuring around 525 square feet, along with an undivided land share of 17 to 20 square yards. The Indiramma Towers would be constructed on government-identified sites, with buildings going up to 10 floors wherever required. Lifts and other necessary infrastructure would also be provided. While the government will contribute `5 lakh, the beneficiary contribution will be `6 lakh for each flat.
Gautham said the final selection of beneficiaries would be made after completion of the lucky draws and field verification. Certificates would be issued after verification, following which construction works would be taken up within three to four days. Beneficiaries would also have the opportunity to personally monitor the construction of their flats.
In Nampally, the draw began with the Scheduled Caste community category. As per the 14 per cent reservation earmarked for SC beneficiaries, slips bearing the names of 288 applicants were placed in a drum for selection of 67 flats. Housing minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, MLA Majid Hussain, Housing MD V.P. Gautham and Collector Priyanka, among others, were present as beneficiaries themselves picked the slips.
Marakalu Krishnaveni was selected for the first flat in the SC category, followed by T. Anitha, Manganuri Anasuya, M. Kumari and Shailajakumari.
