Hyderabad: Hyderabad Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar has appealed to the people of the city, especially the youth and parents, not to hold birthday celebrations and cake cuttings at Tank Bund as well as main roads, ponds and parks at midnight.

In a video message, he said that birthday celebrations that should be celebrated happily were causing irreparable loss to families due to impulsiveness and negligence.

Recalling a recent road accident that took place on Tank Bund at 2 am, he said a family came to Tank Bund to celebrate the birthday of a six-year-old child. But the child and a family member died on the day of their birthday in a road accident that occurred on Tank Bund.

He said that the police reached the spot immediately after receiving the information and tried their best to save the injured by taking them to the hospital, but to no avail. He revealed that they have inspected the accident site on Tank Bund along with senior police officers to take strong preventive measures to prevent such incidents from recurring in the future.

He explained that a comprehensive review has been conducted in collaboration with various government departments to prevent accidents there. He clarified that birthdays are a personal celebration related to the family and should be celebrated only at home or in safe places.

Sajjanar said that since there is less traffic on the roads at midnight, vehicles tend to speed excessively, and it is not wise to come on the road with children at such a time. He reminded that holding such celebrations on Tank Bund is completely prohibited as per the rules, and GHMC has issued clear instructions in the past.

The Police Commissioner said that even though the police were constantly sending back those who come there and yet such accidents were happening because they come back at midnight and celebrate.

He said that precious lives should not be lost due to mistakes made just for momentary pleasure and urged everyone to cooperate with the city police and save lives.
