Polytechnic students led by BRSV district president Dharani Rajesh staged a protest at a polytechnic college in Laltekdi, Utnoor, on Wednesday, demanding that the state government cancel GO 97.

The students opposed the proposed merger of government polytechnic colleges with other institutions and demanded that they be kept separate.

Addressing the protesters, Dharani Rajesh alleged that the government’s decisions were affecting technical and polytechnic education. He criticised the government for taking decisions without consulting stakeholders.

He also demanded clarity on the AICTE provisions relating to the Young India Skill University and alleged that the government was seeking to transfer valuable land and other resources of government polytechnic colleges to the university.

Rajesh further claimed that the Skill University had received a poor response from students despite the Skill University Act being enacted two years ago.

BRSV members Ajmeera Jaya Chandra Rathod, Anvesh, Sajid Sidiq, Mahesh Madasu, Dinesh and other students were present.
