Police Raid 3 Fertility Centres, Doubts Over Egg Donors
Malkajgiri police raided three fertility centres and seized documents while investigating alleged fabrication of egg donor records and violations of mandatory safeguards.
Malkajgiri police raided three fertility centres and seized documents as part of their investigation into an alleged illegal egg donation racket. Police are examining whether donor records were fabricated and mandatory safeguards were followed. Begumpet and Saroornagar police have also sought custody of the accused for further questioning.
Malkajgiri police commissioner B. Sumathi said the documents collected from the three centres were being scrutinised and cross-verified to establish whether egg donor records were properly maintained and the details furnished were genuine.
Investigators are examining possible misuse of Aadhaar details, instances of unmarried women being recorded as married, alterations to details of children, forged signatures and cases where one woman's identity may have been used to register another as a donor.
"Egg donors are required to submit identity proof, marital status, details of children, blood group, health profile and informed consent. Police are verifying whether these documents were obtained and authenticated," explained Sumathi.
The investigation is also examining the roles of Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) centres and fertility centres. While ART centres interact directly with donors, fertility centres do not. Police are verifying whether the prescribed safeguards were followed at every stage.
The administration of hormonal injections to stimulate egg production is also under scrutiny. Police seized hormonal injections during the raids and sent them to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) for examination.
Investigators are verifying whether the injections were administered under medical supervision and in accordance with the permitted protocols.
Sumathi said the investigation would also cover intermediaries and the centres concerned. She clarified that association with a centre alone would not make a person an accused and that action would be taken based on evidence establishing individual involvement.
