Hyderabad: Plans To Boost Medical Tourism At TIMS For Foreign Patients
To oversee the management of special wards for international patients , the Health Department has constituted a special Medical Tourism Promotion Committee.
Hyderabad: The recently inaugurated Dr. Marri Chennareddy Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (Dr. MCR TIMS) in Hyderabad has launched a special initiative to provide medical services to foreign patients.
As per reports, to oversee the management of special wards for international patients, monitoring, agreements (MoUs) with various countries, and translation services, the Health Department has constituted a special Medical Tourism Promotion Committee.
The committee will ensure all necessary services for foreign patients are made available at TIMS.As part of the initiative, 50 beds have been exclusively earmarked for foreign patients. The government aims to make Telangana a medical tourism hub by offering treatment at affordable costs in specialities like organ transplantation, cardiac surgeries, cancer, neuro, ortho, urology, nephrology, and pulmonology.
To ensure foreign patients do not face difficulties regarding health insurance and other issues, the government will enter into agreements with respective countries. Officials have already started negotiations for MoUs to cater to patients coming from Africa and Arab countries.The Executive Council has recently decided to collect fees for TIMS medical services on the lines of NIMS. However, free medical services will continue to be provided to the poor under Aarogyasri.
