Owaisi Slams UP Deputy CM’s Remarks on Madrasas

Hyderabad:AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi criticised Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya’s comments on madrasas, calling them “divisive and unconstitutional”. The Hyderabad MP defended madrasas by highlighting their role in India’s independence movement.
In a post on X, Owaisi cited Article 30 constitutional protections for madrasas and accused the BJP of weaponising hatred for political advantage. “Madrasas were centres of conspiracies against the British and the struggle for freedom. They produced countless mujahideen of independence, while Savarkar was writing mercy petitions to the British,” he wrote.

He added that the first terrorist of independent India was Nathuram Godse, who was not educated in a madrasa, while India’s first President Rajendra Prasad, as well as Munshi Premchand and Raja Ram Mohan Roy, had studied in madrasas. “It is utterly shameful that a person holding a constitutional office should use such poisonous language,” he charged.
