HYDERABAD: Osmania University (OU) became the first university in the country to receive four international ISO certifications simultaneously from the bureau of Indian standards (BIS).

The certifications were presented at a ceremony held at the university’s senate hall on Wednesday by Sandeep Kumar Kanojia, deputy director general, southern region and Scientist ‘F’ at BIS.

The university received ISO 21001:2018 for educational organisations management systems, ISO 14001:2015 for environmental management systems, ISO 50001:2018 for energy management systems and ISO 22000:2018 for food safety management systems.

The certifications cover areas including academic administration, environmental management, energy efficiency and food safety practices across the university.

Addressing the gathering, Kanojia described the achievement as significant but said maintaining the standards would be the real challenge. “Achieving these certifications is a major accomplishment. However, this is only the beginning of the quality journey, not the destination. The real success lies in continuously maintaining and improving these standards,” he said.

Vice-chancellor Prof. Kumar Molugaram said the recognition is an important moment in the university’s 109-year history. “We do not rest on past achievements. By adopting global standards, we are preparing Osmania University to meet future challenges and international expectations while serving the needs of students and society,” he said.

Registrar Prof. G. Naresh Reddy said the achievement could serve as a benchmark for governance and quality management in higher education institutions.

Officials said the certification is the result of efforts undertaken through the internal quality assurance cell and various academic and administrative departments to align university systems with internationally recognised standards.
