HYDERABAD: The city police said it had rescued 1,413 children during ‘Operation Muskaan XII’ in July. Among the rescued were 1,331 boys and 82 girls. Of the rescued children, 828 children belong to Telangana, 563 were identified as hailing from other states, and 22 were found to be from Nepal.
Police constituted 26 divisional teams for the drive which was conducted in coordination with the child welfare committee, labour department, department of women and child welfare, Child Line, anti‑human trafficking unit (AHTU), Juvenile Bureau (JB) Unit and NGOs,
To ensure legal action against perpetrators, police registered 64 FIRs against employers engaging children in illegal labour practices. In addition, 723 cases under the Minimum Wages Act were booked, with fines amounting to ₹25,90,175 imposed on erring employers.
Under the supervision of M. Srinivasulu, Addl. CP Crimes, a coordination meeting was held with all stakeholders at the outset of the operation. Officials said this motivated the teams and contributed to the success of the month‑long drive.
The teams worked round the clock and displayed exceptional commitment in safeguarding the rights and dignity of children, a press release issued by Dr. Lavanya Naik, DCP WSW, stated on Tuesday.
