Adilabad: Gram sabhas and ward-level meetings on Tuesday opened with a jarring note with beneficiaries confronting officials over missing their names in the lists of welfare schemes. The meetings were held in 509 revenue villages and 49 wards in Adilabad district.

At various places, villagers asked the officials to tell them about the selection process and the eligibility criteria for the welfare schemes. In Bajarhathnoor mandal headquarters, landless labourers questioned the officials on making 20 days of working under NREGS an eligibility criterion for Indiramma Athmeeya Bharosa.

In Kanigutta village of Boath mandal, applicants questioned officials why their names were not found in the lists for four welfare schemes such as ration cards, Rythu Bharosa and Inidramma houses and Indiramma Athmeeya Bharosa.

At a meeting in ward No. 6 in Adilabad town, residents expressed their displeasure over not finding their names in the lists for welfare schemes though they fulfilled all eligibility criteria.

It was found that only 65 applicants out of 261 were selected for ration cards while 143 out of 651 applicants were selected for Indiramma houses in ward number 6 of Adilabad town. The state government received applications from people for various welfare schemes under Praja Palana last December.

Officials received fresh applications from people for welfare schemes. Collector Rajarshai Shah said people can give their applications for welfare schemes at Praja Palana centres in the MPDO office in the mandal headquarters even after January 26 and applying for welfare schemes is a continuous process.

The collector participated in the gram sabhas in Samaka, Pipri in Indravelli mandal and Umri in Utnoor mandal.
