Hyderabad:Telangana Council of Higher Education (TGCHE) chairman Prof. V. Balakista Reddy has invited the University of Waikato to establish an off‑campus centre in the proposed Bharat Future City, during talks on academic ties between the New Zealand institution and universities in the state.

A delegation led by Sharon Calvert, assistant vice‑chancellor for International Engagement and Partnership at Waikato, met Prof. Reddy in Hyderabad on Monday. They discussed collaboration with universities across Telangana. The delegation described Waikato as a “globally connected public university” ranked first in New Zealand for research, and noted that more than 1,000 Indian students were enrolled there.

Prof. Reddy briefed the visitors on Telangana’s higher education system and asked Waikato to consider opening an off‑campus centre in Bharat Future City, where the state government has proposed a university zone for international institutions.

TGCHE described the project as a place where institutions can “work, live, learn and play”. No timeline or details were given for the proposed centre. Prof. Reddy also spoke about Telangana Vision 2047, saying the plan was aligned with the wider national vision and would guide the state’s future.
