A 26-year-old man from Nirmal was declared brain dead by doctors after suffering severe injuries in a road accident in the United States.

Nithyanand Reddy Gannu, involved in an accident at Ann Arbor in Michigan on July 18, belonged to Narsapur village in Nirmal district. He completed his Master's degree in Information Systems at Indiana Tech in 2024, and was building his career in the US.

According to a fundraiser started by his friend, Nithyanand sustained critical injuries in the accident and was rushed to the hospital for treatment. Despite the efforts of doctors, his condition worsened after he developed a rare medical complication called cerebral fat embolism — where fat molecules enter the bloodstream and lodge themselves in the brain.

Doctors later confirmed that he was brain dead, although he remained on life support. The fundraiser had raised more than $63,000, according to latest reports.
