Hyderabad:Warangal district police registered a case against a contract employee of Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (Nims) for alleged cheating, illegal collection of money and exploitation of a patient in the name of kidney transplantation.

The complainant, Mohammed Sabir, who has been undergoing dialysis since February 2023, named Nagaraju of the Nims radiology department, employed under M/s P.S. Manpower Supply Agency, as the accused.

Sabir stated that in November 2023, through one Veeraswamy, he was introduced to Nagaraju, who assured him of arranging a kidney transplant within a month. Later, Sabir met nephrologist Sree Bhushan Raju, who advised him to approach the official transplant coordinator, Ravi Kumar. Instead, Sabir continued communication with Nagaraju.

Nagaraju allegedly demanded ₹2.50 lakh for the transplant. Sabir paid the amount, and when no kidney materialised, Nagaraju sought another week and took ₹1 lakh by cheque as surety.

Sabir later learnt from his acquaintance Mohammed Amzad, a transplant beneficiary through Jeevandan, that no private money collection is carried out either by Jeevandan or Nims. He then approached doctors in Nephrology Unit‑2 during OP consultation and explained the matter.

Based on his complaint, police registered a case and are probing.

Hotelier, lover held for murder of friend

Hyderabad:Patancheru police on Saturday arrested a hotelier, Baindla Naveen, and his lover R. Prameela for allegedly murdering her husband after he discovered their extramarital affair.

The victim, Shekar Rayigalla, a cargo auto driver, was found dead in Patancheru on May 14 by his brother Yesudas.

Police said Naveen, who runs a small hotel near Value Zone Mart along with his mother, had been friends with Shekar for four years and often helped him financially. Through this friendship, Naveen became acquainted with Shekar’s wife Prameela two years ago, and the two developed an illicit relationship. Prameela later became seven months pregnant.

When Shekar learnt of the affair, he grew hostile towards his wife and frequently assaulted her, while also warning Naveen. The duo then conspired to eliminate him.

On May 12, Naveen invited Shekar to consume liquor at an open plot behind Candidus International School, Patancheru. After serving him excess alcohol, Naveen picked a quarrel over debts and harassment, then smashed Shekar’s head with a boulder. He later informed Prameela of the killing, police said.
