Nims Organises Free Cancer Awareness, Screening
Nims organised an awareness walk on Wednesday from 8.30 am to 10.30 am from Nims Banjara Hills to the Panjagutta gate
Hyderabad: Over 217 persons have registered for the free cancer awareness and screening programme announced by the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (Nims), Hyderabad, on occasion of the World Cancer Day.
The tests involved 113 pap smears, screening tests and 65 mammograms. The results are to be announced on Thursday, focusing on breast cancer, cervical cancer and head and neck cancers.
Nims director Dr N. Bheerappa inaugurated the programme. He highlighted the increase in cancer cases and appreciated the Telangana government for empowering Nims with diagnostics and advanced treatment facilities under one roof.
On the occasion, Nims organised an awareness walk on Wednesday from 8.30 am to 10.30 am from Nims Banjara Hills to the Panjagutta gate, with the walk ending at the Nims Learning Centre. Students, department heads, principals, matrons, resident doctors, nursing officers and technicians participated in the walk, indicating strong institutional commitment toward cancer awareness.
Dr Sadasivudu Gundeti discussed the cancer disease in India and Telangana state, apart from the importance of cancer screening for early detection and cure. Nims medical superintendent Dr Nimma Satyanarayana spoke about improvements in logistics enabling hassle-free cancer services.
The programme emphasised on early detection for cancer prevention.
