ADILABAD: The Centre’s approval for widening key national highways in north Telangana is expected to improve connectivity and boost economic activity in the region.

The projects include four-laning of the 131.9-km Armoor-Jagtial-Mancherial stretch of NH 63 and the 58.8-km Jagtial-Karimnagar stretch of NH 563, covering a total of 190.76 km at an estimated cost of ₹7,597.16 crore.
Officials said the projects are expected to enhance movement of goods and services, improve logistics efficiency and strengthen connectivity among Nizamabad, Jagtial, Mancherial and Karimnagar districts.
The works are also projected to generate 33.43 lakh man-days of direct employment and 42.7 lakh man-days indirectly, contributing to local economic activity.
The NH-63 stretch passing through Nizamabad, Jagtial and Mancherial districts currently faces congestion due to built-up areas such as Anksapoor, Korutla, Jagtial, Dharmapuri, Luxettipet and Mancherial. The proposed four-laning is expected to ease traffic flow and reduce travel time between Armoor and Mancherial by about one-and-a-half hours.
Officials said the upgraded highway would provide faster and safer connectivity for passenger and freight traffic, while also reducing fuel consumption, emissions and vehicle operating costs. Bypass roads are planned at congested stretches, along with modern road infrastructure and open tolling systems.
Union minister G. Kishan Reddy said the projects would transform transportation in north Telangana. He said the widened highways would connect industrial and economic hubs, including SEZs in Karimnagar and Warangal, Mega Food Parks in Nizamabad and Siddipet, and a seafood cluster in Rajanna Sircilla.
He added that the roads would improve access to key religious and tourist destinations such as Vemulawada, Kondagattu, Dharmapuri and Kaleshwaram, besides linking major infrastructure such as the Lower Manair Dam and regional transport networks.
Peddapalli MP Gaddam Vamsi Krishna said he had raised the issue in the Lok Sabha and taken it up with Union minister for road transport and highways Nitin Gadkari.
He said the project would boost economic activity in the coal belt region, including Peddapalli and Mancherial districts, and support temple tourism. He added that improved transport efficiency could help reduce costs of goods for consumers.
Officials also indicated that traffic through the Kawal Tiger Reserve stretch between Nirmal and Mancherial may reduce as commuters shift to the improved Armoor-Jagtial-Mancherial route.
