HYDERABAD: The Nehru Zoological Park conducted an awareness show on snakes and a cloud photography exhibition as part of the 72nd Wildlife Week celebrations here on Sunday. Zoo education officer Ch. Deepak Tharun presented a live demonstration to an audience of about 5,000 visitors and spoke about the role snakes play in biodiversity, besides the facts and myths on snakes. In nature, most snakes are non-venomous and are friends of farmers.
The rat snake and other snakes like sand boa and green vine snake eat rats, lizards, frogs, insects and small mammals, he said. Zoo curator J. Vasantha said every single living being in nature plays a vital role in maintain biodiversity. Snakes play a very vital role in nature, and misunderstanding and myths were the main reasons of their being killed, she added.
