Natarajan: BJP Indulging in Party Theft After Vote Theft and Seat Theft
She accused the party of undermining democratic institutions for electoral advantage
Hanamkonda: Telangana Congress affairs in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan on Monday alleged that the BJP-led NDA was misusing the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls for political gain and urged party workers to remain vigilant against what she termed “vote theft, seat theft and now party theft.”
Referring to her Rajya Sabha membership issue, Natarajan alleged that the BJP had first “stolen votes,” then “stolen a Rajya Sabha seat,” and was now creating conditions to “steal political parties.” She accused the party of undermining democratic institutions for electoral advantage.
Natarajan attended the programme along with Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president Bomma Mahesh Kumar Goud. They were received by Warangal West MLA Naini Rajender Reddy, District Congress Committee president Engala Venkatram Reddy and other public representatives.
Speaking at the event, TPCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud alleged that the Election Commission was functioning under the influence of the BJP-led Central government and under the watch of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union home minister Amit Shah. He claimed that voters from minority, Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe and tribal communities were being targeted for deletion.
Addressing an awareness seminar and training programme for Booth Level Agents (BLAs) organised by the Hanamkonda District Congress Committee and Warangal West Assembly constituency, she said voter list revision was a routine exercise but its alleged misuse by the BJP was “dangerous and undemocratic.”
She alleged that the Centre was trying to retain voters favourable to the BJP while removing others through the SIR process, claiming that a large number of names had been deleted in states where the exercise had already been implemented.
“Therefore, it is imperative that Congress workers and BLAs remain alert and actively participate in the voter verification process to safeguard the democratic rights of citizens,” she said.
Warning against complacency, she said negligence in the SIR process could have serious consequences and advised party workers to verify voter registrations without waiting for elections to be announced.
“Assuming that everything will function smoothly simply because Congress is in power in the state would be a mistake. Every Congress BLA and party worker must go door-to-door, create awareness among voters and ensure that every eligible citizen’s voting right is protected,” she said.
Goud urged BLAs to work at the grassroots level to ensure that all eligible voters remained on the electoral rolls, with particular focus on economically weaker sections.
Later, Goud unfurled the party flag and participated in the BLA training session, where leaders briefed workers on the SIR process. Natarajan directed party workers to monitor the ongoing BLA-2 SIR exercise in Warangal West constituency and ensure that no eligible voter was excluded.
