Modi, Shah May Anchor BJP's Poll Campaigns

HYDERABAD: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and home minister Amit Shah will take centrestage in poll campaigning in Telangana as the BJP ramps up organisational activity ahead of three crucial municipal corporation elections in the Hyderabad tri‑city limits and the 2028 Assembly polls.
Party sources said the national leadership has directed the state unit to sustain the rhythm of high‑level visits and local engagement to sharpen the party’s ground machinery and keep state leaders on their toes. Under the plan, one or two senior BJP leaders will be deputed to Telangana every month, while Union ministers will be required to mix official duties with organisational programmes focused on direct interaction with party workers and the public.
Sources said Modi and Shah were expected to visit Telangana every two to three months to lead public events, address cadres and energise voter outreach. The strategy was aimed at translating national momentum into state‑level organisational discipline and visible mass connect ahead of the municipal contests, likely to be held at year‑end, and the run‑up to the 2028 Assembly election.
Union defence minister Rajnath Singh recently underlined the approach during a two‑day tour of the twin cities, meeting intellectuals and attending official events that combined governance messaging with political outreach. BJP president Nitin Nabin had also planned a three‑day statewide tour to meet district‑level leaders and activists from Sunday. State president N. Ramchander Rao said the trip was postponed due to Nabin’s local engagements in Delhi, with fresh dates to be announced.
The party has decided that most senior leaders visiting Telangana will allocate a minimum of two days, giving them time to confer with local leadership, hold public meetings and settle organisational matters. Strategists say extended visits — rather than short stops — will help strengthen coordination, iron out local differences and maintain a steady public profile for the national leadership across Telangana.
State leaders insisted that the programme was aimed at public outreach rather than micromanagement. “Senior leaders will engage with the masses and party workers, not just attend protocol events,” Ramchander Rao said, adding that the visits calibrate strategy across districts.
With municipal elections offering an early test and the 2028 Assembly polls still two years away, the BJP’s renewed Modi‑Shah visits represent a long‑term intensive push by the party.
