Meerpet police face flak over murder response
Police misconduct against a leader after reporting crime
Hyderabad: A former ZPTC leader, Jillela Narender Reddy, on Saturday alleged that Meerpet police personnel had misbehaved with him when he reported a crime incident and tried to help the victim. According to Reddy, he found an unidentified man lying in a pool of blood near his house. He called the police and tried to shift the victim to a hospital.
He claimed that the police arrived nearly an hour later. When they reached, they reportedly started looking for the victim’s family. Meanwhile, one P. Eshwar claimed that the victim was his brother P. Vishnu and the police began questioning him.
Reddy said the ambulance also arrived late to take Vishnu to hospital. Since he was bleeding, three autorickshaws refused to take Vishnu. When they finally made it to the Osmania Hospital, Reddy claimed, he suggested that Eshwar stay with the victim and the police could collect details from his relatives.
He claimed that a police personnel held him by his collar, abused him and questioned him if he was going to teach them how to do their job.
Speaking to the Deccan Chronicle, Narender Reddy said: “My family has served in politics for 50 years. My wife served as a former sarpanch and I was a ZPTC member. Today what I received was a total humiliation, something I never expected in my long political career.”
Asked about the incident, Meerpet ACP told Deccan Chronicle that the police received the call at 11.09 pm and the nearest patrol team rushed to the spot by 11.14 pm, which was entered in the records. The ACP said that an investigation into the alleged police misbehaviour would be conducted. Meerpet inspector K. Nagaraju did not respond when Deccan Chronicle attempted to call him.
