Medak Fort To Get A Facelift

The proposed works include restoration of fortification walls, stepped wells, Mahals, Gajasala, gateways and bastions, besides structural strengthening of damaged portions

As per the directions of special chief secretary (YAT&C) A. Vani Prasad, heritage department director Prof. K Arjun Rao met Medak collector Prathima Singh and discussed the restoration and conservation plans for the fort.
Hyderabad: The historic Medak Fort is set to get a major facelift with a grant of ₹10 crore from the Medak district administration.
The proposed works include restoration of fortification walls, stepped wells, Mahals, Gajasala, gateways and bastions, besides structural strengthening of damaged portions. Pathways, lighting, basic amenities, and signage will also be developed for visitors.
The fort was originally constructed during the Kakatiya period in the 12th-13th centuries and later strengthened by the Qutb Shahi rulers. The hill fort is known for its strategic location, ancient gateways, cannon installations, and panoramic view of Medak town.
To expedite the works, as per the directions of special chief secretary (YAT&C) A. Vani Prasad, heritage department director Prof. K Arjun Rao met Medak collector Prathima Singh and discussed the restoration and conservation plans for the fort.
During the review, the previous proposed estimate of `6.20 crore was revised to `10 crore for comprehensive development works. The need for appointing tourist guides and tourist police was also highlighted for better visitor management, interpretation and safety.
The department is planning to build a ropeway to the Medak fort and the site museum as part of the second phase of works. The district administration is also planning to develop a tourist circuit connecting Pocharam wildlife sanctuary, Medak fort, Medak Cathedral Church and Sri Vanadurga Bhavani temple, Edupayala.
