KARIMNAGAR: Karimnagar mayor Kolagani Srinivas assured that steps would be taken to clear the dumping yard and address the garbage problem in the city.
Chairing the Municipal Corporation general body meeting on Saturday, Srinivas said tenders would be invited for clearing the accumulated garbage by allocating Rs 17 crore under the Swachh Bharat Mission. Another ₹8 crore would be allocated under the Karimnagar Smart City programme, he said.
To improve sanitation, the corporation would purchase machinery and new vehicles, including JCBs, ladders, fogging machines, funeral vehicles, blade tractors and rickshaws, the mayor said.
Responding to members’ concerns over the growing menace of stray dogs and monkeys, Srinivas assured that steps would be taken to provide relief to residents. He said sterilisation of stray dogs was being carried out through an Animal Birth Control (ABC) centre to control their population.
He said steps were also being taken to strengthen the ABC centre. Tenders had been invited for Rs 2 crore worth of works, including increasing the number of kennels, constructing a compound wall and providing other facilities. The number of kennels would be increased to 150, he said.
Earlier, the general body discussed various issues concerning the city and unanimously approved 180 agenda items.
