A large number of voters in the urban areas of the Adilabad, Boath and Mancherial Assembly constituencies are facing notices over anomalies identified during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

The notices are being issued over discrepancies including errors in names, surnames and ages, besides voters categorised as absent, shifted, deceased or duplicate (ASDD) during the SIR process.

Political parties, particularly the Congress, have raised concerns over the large number of notices in urban areas. Party leaders said some voters with duplicate entries had retained their names in rural areas while their names were rejected in towns, while migration and deaths had also contributed to the discrepancies.

The BLA-2s have been activated to help genuine voters respond to the notices and retain their names in the electoral roll during the second phase of the SIR.

According to official sources, 85,525 notices were generated among 2,50,393 electors in the Adilabad Assembly constituency. Of these, 6,146 notices had been delivered and 79,379 were yet to be delivered.

In the Mancherial Assembly constituency, 68,195 notices were generated among 2,83,299 electors.

In the Boath Assembly constituency, 64,900 notices were generated among a total of 21,639 electors, according to the supplied figures. Of these, 19,655 notices had been served and 45,245 were yet to be served.

Congress leaders asked the party’s BLA-2s to visit voters’ homes, examine the reasons cited in the notices and assist genuine voters in retaining their names during the second phase of the SIR.

Adilabad DCC president Naresh Jadhav directed the party’s BLAs to verify the details of voters who received notices by visiting their homes. He said BLAs should sign the notices only after verifying the reasons cited.

Jadhav said the number of notices was higher in urban areas because of migration and changes in women’s surnames after marriage. He said minor errors in surnames, names and age differences between parents and children could be corrected at the tahsildar level.
