Adilabad: The Mancherial forest department will organise a forest marathon on Sunday to promote eco-tourism and biodiversity conservation in the forest areas on the outskirts of Mancherial town.

The event will be held from 5 am to 11 am, with forest officials describing it as the first such marathon organised in the area to promote eco-tourism and forest conservation.

According to Mancherial divisional forest officer Rahul Kishan Jadhav, nearly 300 nature lovers and runners from Telangana, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, as well as other countries, have registered for the event. The route will cover grasslands, a quarry area and Gandhari Khilla on the outskirts of Mancherial town.

Saplings will be planted in the names of participants in recognition of their participation. Participants will receive T-shirts and appreciation certificates, while medals will be awarded to runners and winners.

According to sources, the event will feature three categories: a 5-km run for children above eight years, a 10-km run for those above 14 years and a 30-km run for participants aged 18 and above.
