Man Suspected of Murdering Wife, Two Daughters in Hanamkonda
Quest for son is said to be the motive for murder
WARANGAL: Investigations into the deaths of a woman and her two young daughters in a swimming pool at Punnelu of Inavolu mandal in Hanamkonda district have taken a twist, with police suspecting a premeditated triple murder allegedly linked to a dispute over the woman’s pregnancy.
The suspect Azharuddin had initially claimed that his wife Farhat (26) and daughters Umera (8) and Ayesha (6) had accidentally drowned in a swimming pool. However, evidence gathered by Inavolu police points to a premeditated plot over the pregnancy of Farhat.
Sources disclosed that the primary motive for the murder appears to be Azharuddin’s obsession for a son. Farhat’s parents allege that the suspect had forced her to undergo two abortions in the past after discovering that the foetuses are female.
Conflict erupted three months ago when Farhat became pregnant again. On coming to know that the next child will also be a female, Azharuddin allegedly pressured Farhat for an abortion once again. But Farhat refused, culminating in the triple murder on Wednesday night, the birthday of elder daughter Umera.
Technical evidence has strengthened the murder theory. Investigators have discovered that the CCTV cameras at the swimming pool had intentionally been turned off shortly before the incident, suggesting a planned attempt to destroy any proof.
While Azharuddin claims that he found the bodies floating in the pool after returning from the washroom, Farhat’s family believes he forcibly drowned Farhat and then killed the two children in the same manner to prevent them from testifying against him.
The suspect is currently in police custody and is being interrogated by senior officials. A formal announcement of the charges is expected to follow a detailed forensic report from the MGM hospital, where the post-mortem of the three bodies has been conducted.
